Hatton Garden
Tapestry were appointed as part of a team with Momentum Transport Planning and Benedetti Architects, to prepare a design guide and spatial strategy for the Hatton Garden Business Improvement District. The 17-hectare area has numerous historic buildings and is a hub for the jewellery industry and also has a popular weekday market along Leather Lane. Our brief was to identify the existing issues with the area which we did via observational and desktop studies as well as by holding a ‘walking workshop’ with a number of key local business owners and the ward councillor.
We then identified a number of interventions and enhancements to overcome these issues and to improve the area for workers, residents and visitors. In seeking to enhance identity and a sense of place through the public realm, the guide we produced was a comprehensive strategy for all of the area’s streets and spaces, addressing key issues such as parking and servicing.
